Who ya gonna call for your next family-friendly event? Eastern Shore Ghostbusters!

I was a bit nervous about our first Free Comic Book Day last Saturday – what if no one came after all the energy we spent preparing for it? Before we opened Ogre’s Grove last October, we usually went on vacation for the first week of May, just so we could hit as many comic shops as possible on the drive home. No store within a half an hour of Milton had ever celebrated the international event before so I wasn’t sure how many locals would be looking for participating places on FreeComicBookDay.com. We had advertised, handed out flyers and shared it on social media – but what if that weren’t enough?

Turns out, there was nothing to be afraid of, thanks to James Chamberlain of the Eastern Shore Ghostbusters. He parked the ECTahOe-1 (a Chevrolet Tahoe he decorated like the ECTO-1 vehicle from the 1984 movie) between the Milton library and our shop, and captured everyone’s attention. Several sounds, including the Ghostbusters theme song, was programed to play from its speakers. James made his entire Ghostbusters costume, down to the proton pack, which Ernie Hudson (aka Winston Zeddemore) signed at the Cruisin Car Show in Ocean City, Maryland last year. Bringing the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man along to hang out by Milton Garden Club’s pretty flower bed was a nice touch. Lots of families stopped by to take photos and then came in to check out the rest of our Free Comic Book Day festivities.

We look forward to having the cosplayers back next Free Comic Book Day, which falls on May 4, 2019.

Join the Eastern Shore Ghostbusters Facebook Group to find out what conventions, parades, charity drives and other community events they’ll be attending.

Or if there’s something strange in your neighborhood, book them for a birthday party or another celebration!
