Featured Artist: Lanae Drew of FunkyCreative

Friday forecasts in the warm months always seem to call for rain … but sometimes Mother Nature changes her mind at the last second and lets the sun shine instead. Like the first Friday in June when we had Lanae Drew of FunkyCreative booked for Tour 684. Our porch had been leaking earlier that week during a spry storm, so it’s always better safe than sorry when it comes to the chance of paper getting wet. Thus we hope to reschedule Lanae at a later date.

That doesn’t mean you have to wait that long to browse her art – go follow funkycreative_designs on Instagram to see what she’s working on currently. Here’s Lanae telling us how her art journey started:

“When I was four years old, I wanted to be a doctor by day, and an artist by night. At age 16, I realized another 12 or more years of school was so not my jam, but art definitely was. Photography, drawing, painting, pottery, graphic design … I loved it all.

Throughout school, I would draw portraits for classmates and make parody movie posters for laughs. To actually WORK as an artist seemed like too much creative pressure, so art remained a hobby.

In 2020, I found myself helping friends design logos and websites for their new endeavors. I was working – as an artist! After years of filling sketch books and doodling on every host stand in every restaurant I’ve worked at, I have a tiny little art business that four-year-old me would be proud of. Especially the stickers. I’ve always loved stickers.”
