Featured Artist: Rachael Barker

March 14 we hosted our busiest art reception ever … and 5 days later, Governor Carney shut down retail businesses in Delaware to try to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Thus many of our customers missed seeing our spring show, featuring the awesome art of Rachael Barker.

But not to worry, because we’ve extended her exhibit and starting today, we will be open to the public Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 5pm. You can browse it other days, as well, just call 302-643-2125 to make a private appointment. Or if you still can’t come in person, do the next best thing and watch the Facebook Live video we posted a few weeks ago.

Rachael has been drawing since she could pick up a pencil, but honed her skills as a young adult. When in high school, she drew a lot of inspiration from Tim Burton, Brian Froud, Amy Brown and Edgar Allan Poe. Wait, are we talking about me? All four of those souls inspired my style, too!

Both of us became more influenced by comic and graphic novel art as we grew older. While I still only use ink and colored pencils, she branched out to include Copic markers and watercolors. She recognizes Abigail Larson and Fiona Staples as current inspirational artists.

Rachael enjoys drawing her own versions of well-loved characters, but also loves to create original characters. If you follow her on Instagram @rachaelbarkerart like I do, you also probably can’t wait to see what crystal she will make a goddess out of next! She already did my birthstone, amethyst, so I’m open to anything else. What do you hope she’ll choose?
