Swamp Thang Cigar and Auchentoshan American Oak Scotch Pairing by BullDog

Given Ogre’s love of Swamp Thing, BullDog chose Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured Swamp Thang as his first cigar to pair with a scotch. Also, a reminder that you must be at least 21 years old to partake in his pairing:

“Swamp Thang features a full candela leaf topped only above the band by a maduro leaf. Minimal veins, tight invisible seams, slight soft pack with an oily butter feel. First light reveals the perfect draw of the candela wrapper which is then followed by the mellow fire cured taste. Flavors stay consistent through this cigar until you get to the maduro part that adds a hint of cocoa as the fire cured blends together for a smooth finish.

I paired it with Auchentoshan American Oak single malt scotch (aged in ex-bourbon cask) which gives it a unique bouquet to the flavor palate. It is an unpeated whiskey, aged in American oak and aimed at the American whiskey crossover audience. Light gold in color, slight amber tinge, showing off its American oak cask aging. Dry malt is the star with the nose of sugar cookie, vanilla green apple, light oak spice and a touch of barnyard hay and watered down caramel on the palate.

I found this pairing to blend well because of the fire cured tobacco and candela wrapper of the Swamp Thang, and the subtle vanilla and caramel of the oak cast aging of the Auchentoshan single malt.

Happy pairings!”
