Look! Up in the Sky! It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane…
Superman debuted in Action Comics #1, created by author Jerry Siegel and illustrator Joe Shuster. Since 1938, he has become an American icon that has swooped across all media. The symbol on his chest is easily recognized around the world, inspiring many mortals to be better people.
He is the ultimate American dream. Not just an immigrant, but an alien from another planet. Earthlings are lucky he fell to Kansas to be raised by a loving, hard-working family that instilled such a strong moral compass in him. He then moves to the big city of Metropolis, gets hired as a reporter and finds the love of his life, Lois Lane. All that and oh, wait. Did I mention he can fly? Yes, that’s where I should I have started.
The light of our yellow sun granted this man powers of flight, speed, strength, invincibility, heat / X-ray vision and cold breath. Those abilities have evolved with the character over the last 80 years. But for me, as a child, it was the flight that astounded my young mind. Wow, a man can fly!
I had my mom fashion me my own “costume” and I lived in that thing. Every day was spent playing with Superman toys, running around the house pretending to be Superman and recreating scenes from Super Friends.
The simple joy this character brought me then and brings me now is one of the reasons I love comics so much. I could go on and on about Big Blue and the greater impact he has on my life, but I want you to check out his comic books and find your love of Superman.
Comics are a true classic. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I liked the new Superman vs Batman movie!
Superheroes are so popular these days….but nobody beats Superman!
My son and my husband love comics and superhero’s!
Superman has always been my favorite superhero. I grew up with everything Superman: comics, tv shows, movies, games and toys. I still enjoy the character all these years later.
I think superman is AWESOME — but I particularly think that young man dressed up as superman is TOTALLY AWESOME. You are so cute 🙂 🙂 :).
My son adores Superman. He always wants to dress up as him for Halloween and if he had it his way he’d dress up as him everyday.
I love Superman he one of my favorite super heroes!
…and The Spirit of Superman is great to have around. 💗
Superman is a great superhero! Great morals and a role model for all ages.
Other than Batman as my favorite, Superman is number 2 on my list.
Yeah, that little boy in the superman clothes, was something else!……
I have not seen the new Batman Vs Superman movie
But I loved the comics as a kid
Our family loves super heroes especially Superman. I am a huge comic fan myself.
I have not seen the new Batman Vs Superman but look forward to seeing it.
neat
Thanks so much!
One of my first super hero favorites! I remember wearing a towel as a cape and flowing around the living room fighting crime (well, my dog anyways) Even though im more a fan of Iron Man these days, Superman will always have a place in my super hero heart.
I wanted to be Superman when I was little but I had to settle for my Wonder Woman underoos and a pillowcase cape
I enjoy watching the older Superman movies. I have not follwed the newer movies made about him.
Superman is still my favorite all time tv character. I was born in the 50’s when the original was around. It was so awesome.
My boys love comics!
Love superman comics !
Looking forward to the Justice League and other new movies down the line
My husband is a comic junkie! Hope we win 🙂
I still love Superman! I am 60 years old, and I watched the original in black & white TV.
I like Superman. I recently found out that Batman keeps a supply of kryptonite to use against Superman if he ever went evil.
Soon everyone will be able to fly, thanks to jetpacks – you’ll be able to be Superman, too! 😉
Superman is my son’s favorite Super hero!! I haven’t seen the Batman vs. Superman movie but my husband and oldest son did!
My husband is a big Superman fan. I recently bought my 2 year old Grandson his first Superman hard paged book!
Superman is my favorite super hero!! To me, he was the real deal. Other super heroes have to have a hammer, or a self-made gadget suit, or a supped-up car! BUT NOT Superman!! All he had to do is change his clothes, and the rest was ALL him! His abilities was in his DNA and he used it for fighting evil and doing good deeds!
I have always loved superhero’s! I am not sure I am liking the timeline tweeks! I know that it is necessary to have it that way but I love the comic-books.
my nephew loves superman ,he would be overjoyed with this
Superman the comic book character will always be the greatest superhero no matter how they continue to ruin him on the silver screen
I used to love watching Superman when I was little!
have liked superman since christopher reeve played him
We are going to a Super Hero themed family reunion this summer. My boys are fighting over who gets to be Superman!
Comic books have always been such a huge part of my life! I remember going to my grandmothers house and there just being stacks upon stacks upon stacks of comic books in my uncles room! It’s great how such a simple thing can unite a whole group of individuals! Thank you for sharing this story with us.
I have always loved Superman, I can still remember seeing all the original tv series and movies when I was younger, I recently watched the new Supergirl series and enjoyed that also.
I have loved Superman since I was a kid. Christopher Reeve was an amazing Superman.
My husband is a huge superhero fan He loves Superman and listens to the audiobooks on his way to work, he had comics as a kid and would love to start collecting again.
I’ve ALWAYS love Superman. I love him even more now that I’m married to my sweet nerdy husband. He collect comics and I know he would love this prize.
Thank you for having this giveaway!
My hubby loves Superman and now our kids love dressing up as him too 🙂
We are huge Superman fans in my home! I love that this great character and the story lines that I grew up with are still the same as the ones that my kiddo’s are interested in!
I just ordered a superman outfit for my 2 year old grandson, I’m not sure he knows who superman is so I also got him some little plastic figures to play with. I would love other things for him so he keeps his interest.
I like Superman a lot. I watch Superman every weekend when they air it on Me-TV.
I can honestly say I have never read a Superman comic nor seen a movie. My husband is a huge fan however! One day I will check it all out 🙂
I sure love Superman! No way can Batman or any other “superhero” be better than Superman!
How fun! I’ve always thought that Superman was awesome!
I love superman and all his powers. loved your costume :p
I love the picture of you in your Superman costume. Superheroes have had such an impact on our culture. I still remember my son running around in his home made cape, although his chosen alter ego, Power Bird, was straight our of his own imagination at the time. Love your blog…
